Evelyn Reed, 92, of Creston died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Crest Haven Care Centre, Creston, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, December 1 at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Father Kenneth Halbur will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Open Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, November 30. Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family in Evelyn’s name for a scholarship. On-line condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.
Evelyn Elizabeth Reed, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Martha Emma (Dixon) Brown, was born on April 26, 1920 near Prescott in Adams County, Iowa. Evelyn graduated from Prescott High School with the Class of 1937. Evelyn married Orlo Clarence Reed on November 17, 1937 and lived all of her married life in the Creston area.
Evelyn graduated from Creston Community College in 1958 and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri in 1962. She taught school beginning at Richland; then she taught at Zion, Orient-Macksburg and Creston Public Schools. Evelyn taught Math most of her career. She loved teaching and all of her students were important to her. Evelyn retired in 1984 after teaching for twenty-six years and she cherished her relationship with her students.
Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her daughter, Carol (Kevin) King, Creston; her son, Edward (Pam) Reed, Creston; her six grandchildren: Dr. Kelly Reed (Bruce Reese), Des Moines; Dr. Barbara Reed, Naples, FL; Rik Riepe, Fargo, ND; James Riepe, Des Moines; Adam (Allison) King, Des Moines; and Aaron King, Ankeny; Eight Great-Grandchildren; Twelve Great-Great-Grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Pauline Reed, Creston; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; her husband in 1979; her daughter, Sharon Riepe; her brother, James Brown; her three half-brothers: Charlie Brown, Glen Brown and Hugh Fisher; her half-sister, Goldie Schowalter; and her brother-in-law, Harold Reed.
