Faye Townsend

December 13, 1918 — December 26, 2013

Faye Marrs Townsend, daughter of Pearl (Prewitt) Marrs and Benjamin Marrs, was born December 13, 1918 at the farm home near Wolbach, Nebraska. Faye entered eternal rest on December 26, 2013 at Alegent Creighton Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of ninety-five years and thirteen days.
Faye rode horse back to rural school and was Valedictorian of her class in 1936. She began teaching at age seventeen with a Normal Training Certificate. She taught for thirty four years in rural schools in Nebraska and in Iowa at Mt. Ayr, Corning and Prescott. She enjoyed many of those years teaching 6th grade and especially enjoyed Math.
Faye received her Bachelor’s Degree from Northwest Missouri State in 1967.
Faye married longtime friend, Howard Townsend of St Paul, Nebraska on May 23, 1945 at her parent’s home near Tingley, Iowa during Howard’s leave from the Army Air Corp. They farmed near Mt. Ayr and later farmed east of Corning on the Icarian Colony farm where they raised their two children.
Faye always enjoyed her piano and was a fine pianist. She was a faithful member of the Corning United Methodist Church choir and Women’s Circle. After retiring from teaching in 1983, Faye found time to serve on the Advisory Council for the Area 14 Agency on Aging from Adams County, the Departments of Music, Literature, Drama and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed time with family and friends visiting, playing cards and being of service to them in many ways.
Left to cherish Faye’s memory is here son, Rex (Judy) of Corning, Iowa; daughter, Carmen (Larry) Young of Story City, Iowa; grandchildren: Shannon Townsend of Corning, Iowa, Lynn (Lauren) Townsend of Atlanta, Georgia, Alicia (Jason) Bissell of Garland, Texas, Heidi (Ron) Degany of Petach Tikva, Israel, Dan Young of Davenport, Florida, Tiffany (Darnell) Star Story City, Iowa; great grandchildren: Peyton and Cricket Townsend, Conner Bissell, Maayan, Ariel and Itai Degany, Jasmine Star; sister, Betty Fenn of Carson, Iowa; sister-in-law, Naomi Marrs of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Darold (Ellamae) Townsend and sister-in-law, Margie Townsend of St. Paul, Nebraska; along with a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Townsend; infant brother, Dale; brother, Ward; brothers-in-law: Darrel Fenn, Marvin Townsend and Warren Townsend and sister-in-law, Evelyn Rasmussen.
