Fern Adams

Fern Adams, 91, of Newton, formerly of Creston, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at Newton Healthcare Center, Newton, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 9, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Rev. Tim Maxa of Lenox will officiate. Interment will be at the Grand River Cemetery in Grand River, Iowa. Visitation will be open from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. Wednesday morning. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Fern Lucille Adams, the daughter of Oral and Mary (Hopkins) Smith, was born on April 26, 1921 in Leon, Iowa. On February 26, 1941, Fern married Truman Albert Adams in Centerville, Iowa. They lived near Grand River until 1960. They lived in Creston for seven years, and then moved to Orient where they lived for many years. Fern moved to Lenox following the death of her husband in 1994. Fern lived in Newton the last six years of her life.
Fern cooked at the hospital in Creston for several years and also provided cleaning services for various people for several years. She enjoyed gardening and tended to her vegetable and flower gardens regularly. Fern and her husband grew grapes and made their own wine.
Left to cherish Fern’s memory are her four daughters: Shirley McCart, Council Bluffs, IA; Jean (Dave) Johnson, Papillion, NE; Bobbie (Mike) Mohler, Reasnor, IA; and Pam (Dan) Jordan, Lenox, IA; her eight grandchildren; her thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Marie Moren, Carlisle, IA and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Fern in death were her parents; her husband in 1994; her son, Laverne “L. T.” Adams in 1997; her three brothers and their wives; her two sisters and their husbands; and her son-in-law, Robert McCart.
