Ferne Jackson

Ferne Jackson, 92, of Creston died Friday, March 22, 2013, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center, Creston, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 27 at the First Christian Church, Creston. Rev. Ed Shields, United Church of Diagonal, will officiate. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church, and Interment will be at the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday. Open visitation will be from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 26 at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. Wednesday morning at the First Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church; Creston Nursing and Rehab; Alzheimers Association; and/or Care Initiatives Hospice. Ferne Elizabeth Jackson, the daughter of Clarence and Myrtle (Barker) Ambrose, was born on March 24, 1920 in Kent, Iowa. Ferne lived in or near Creston her entire life. She graduated from Kent High School with the Class of 1938. On May 4, 1941, Ferne married John William Jackson at Maryville, Missouri.
Ferne performed house cleaning for various people in Creston before she began work as a cook in the Creston Public School system. She worked as a cook for many years and worked as the Head Cook for several years prior to retirement. Ferne moved to Creston Nursing and Rehab in January, 2006.
Ferne was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Creston and volunteered many hours with the different circles of the church. Ferne worked hard tending to her flower and vegetable gardens; crocheted many pieces for her family; and made several quilts over the years.
Left to cherish Ferne’s memory are her son, Gary Jackson, Creston; her step-son, Hal (Harriett) Jackson, Winterset, IA; her daughter, Karen Jackson, Afton, IA; her step-daughter-in-law, Tillie Jackson, Delta, CO; Fifteen Grandchildren; Many Great-Grandchildren; Several Great-Great Grandchildren; Two brothers: Russell “Pete” Ambrose, Kent, IA; and Eldon (Sharon) Ambrose, Kent, IA; Two sisters: Delma Bittner, Creston; and Helen Ridel, Oklahoma; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Ferne in death were her parents; her husband, John on December 11, 1994; her infant son in 1948; her Grandson, Scotty Norris; her brother, Lyle Ambrose; her step-son Albert “Sonny” Jackson; and two brothers-in-law: Ed Bittner, and Dick Ridel.
