Floyd W. Abbott, 96, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida, formerly of Creston, died Monday, January 21, 2008, at the home of his son, Bill and Cathy Abbott, Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
The family of Floyd Abbott has arranged a Celebration of Life Memorial Service. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 7, at the United Methodist Church in Creston. Rev. Jim Morris of the United Methodist Church will officiate. No visitation is planned. Cremains will be interred at Greenfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Iowa and/or Creston United Methodist Church. Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service of Creston is assisting with the arrangements. Online condolences may be shared under the obituary category at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.
Floyd Wilbur Abbott, the son of Albert Vernen and Mary Leona (Speedling) Abbott, was born on May 14, 1911, at Spaulding in Union County, Iowa. Floyd attended country school and Orient High School until his senior year. He graduated from Creston High School and received his Associate Degree from Creston Junior College. Floyd married Leona Catherine Boyd on October 6, 1933, in Creston, Iowa.
Floyd was a long-time resident of Creston. He owned and operated Abbott Truck Line. Floyd hauled locally for farmers and businesses as well as long distance hauling. He also did excavating work.
Floyd was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Creston and sponsored a bowling team for several years.
Survivors include his daughters: Janet Farley, Bluegrass, Iowa; Linda (husband Al) Brown, Surprise, Arizona; Mary Ann (husband Harold) Broomhall, Omaha, Nebraska; his son: Bill (wife Cathy) Abbott, Ft. Myers Beach, Florida; Seven Grandchildren: Tiffany Boyle, Doug Brown, Julie Brown, Teresa Howard, David Broomhall, Chris Abbott, Camilla Martin; Twelve Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Bernice (husband Edwin) Hutchinson, Lockport, New York; Brother: Orris (wife Mary Ann) Abbott, LaMirada, California; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona; his son: Jim Abbott; his brothers: Lyle and Carl Abbott; and his sister: Helen Bolger.
