Forrest Hastings

February 28, 1939 — January 13, 2015

Forrest (Okie) Hastings, 75, of Fontanelle, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 13, at Good Samaritan Society, Fontanelle, Iowa. A Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date to be announced. There will be no public viewing. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Forrest Ray Hastings, the son of Lawrence and Bonnie Irene (Thomas) Hastings, was born on February 28, 1939 in Antlers, Oklahoma. Forrest attended Lutheran School in Oklahoma through the eighth grade. He served in the United States Army from June 21, 1956 – October 11, 1957 and was honorably discharged. Forrest worked on an oil pipeline in Oklahoma, which was the job that brought him to Iowa. He also worked as a handyman and carpenter after arriving in Iowa. Forrest married Brenda Mantle and two children were born to this union, Terry Hastings and Todd Hastings. They were later divorced. He met Dianna Lee Nosekabel in 1973 at Beefland Packing House in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and three children were born to this union, Renee Nosekabel, Jamie (Nosekabel) Stuva, and Josh Nosekabel. Forrest worked for Beefland Packing House in Council Bluffs, Iowa and also Armour Packing Plant in Omaha, Nebraska for several years. Forrest has lived in Glenwood, Silver City, Nodaway, Clarinda, and Auburn, Nebraska. Forrest returned back to Iowa and lived in Greenfield, Prescott and spent his final years in Fontanelle.
Forrest served on the Nodaway Volunteer Fire Department for three years. He loved to fish, hunt, and loved to cook fish for his family that they had caught in the local rivers. Forrest enjoyed dancing and playing pool at the local pub also. He loved vegetable gardening and canned most of what was grown. Forrest enjoyed tinkering with small engines and could fix about anything.
Left to cherish Forrest’s memory are his children: Terry (Billie Joe) Hastings, Armstrong, Iowa; Todd Hastings, Hull, Iowa; Renee Nosekabel, Greenfield, Iowa; Jamie (Dewayne) Stuva, Prescott, Iowa; and Josh Nosekabel, Tea, South Dakota; Fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; the mothers of his children: Dianna (Brian) Fogelman, Tea, South Dakota; and Brenda Hastings, Spencer, Iowa; and Forrest’s other children: Johnny; Julie; and Lisa.
Preceding Forrest in death were his parents; two brothers; two sisters; one son; and one great grandson.
