Frederick A. Mccard

Frederick A. McCard born May 14, 1921 at his home in Upson County, Georgia, son of Homer S. McCard and Florrie (Waller) McCard. Fred passed at away on Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Corning Nursing and Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa at the age of eighty-nine years, two months and twenty-one days.
Fred attended country school in Upson County Georgia and Robert E. Lee Military Institute, a public high school in Thomaston, Georgia, graduating in 1938.
He joined the Navy in 1941 until 1946 and served on the U.S.S. Wright. On June 29, 1946 he married Genevieve Potts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then enrolled at Coe College in Cedar Rapids graduating in 1950 with a business degree. The couple moved to Corning, Iowa where Fred became the Manager of the Adams County REC for 26 years.
He liked antiques and enjoyed going to auctions. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Corning Masons, Adams County Shriner’s, and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine – Temple in Des Moines, Iowa. Fred was active in Boy Scouts for many years, receiving the Silver Beaver Award.
Fred is survived by his wife, Genevieve; son, Kyle (wife Nancy) McCard; grandchildren: Caroline McCard of Des Moines, Iowa and Andrew (wife Megan) McCard of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother, Dr. Ray (wife Rosalyn) McCard of Macon, Georgia; step-brother, Wallace (wife Emilyn) Seay of Spartenburg, South Carolina; step-mother, Lucille McCard of Thomaston, Georgia; sister-in-law, Mildred Potts of Sterling, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Fred in death were his parents, brother, Homer McCard Jr. (wife Mary Will); brother Bennard (wife Dorothy) McCard and brother-in-law, Leo Potts.
