Genevieve Mccard

July 15, 1925 — November 18, 2014

Genevieve “Gen” Agnes McCard, daughter of Jacob J. Potts and Josephine (Ambrose) Potts, was born July 15, 1925 in Moorhead, Minnesota. Genevieve entered into eternal rest November 18, 2014 at the Bishop Drum Retirement Center in Johnston, Iowa at the age of 89 years four months and three days.
Genevieve’s mother passed away when she was a young child and together with her father and brother they moved to Illinois where her Aunt and Uncle assisted raising her. She attended rural country school, then moved into Sterling, Illinois to attend St. Mary’s High School to complete her education.
During World War 11 she moved to Cedar Rapids, where she met and married Fred McCard. They remained in Cedar Rapids until Fred completed his education, then moved to Corning, Iowa. They were active in the community for the remainder of their adult life.
Genevieve was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was a lifelong homemaker with many talents. She was known for her award winning pies and loved to cook and share her fruits of talent with family and friends. Genevieve took up painting in her adult life and her artistic works became ribbon winners at local art events.
Genevieve was a loyal Democrat who opened her home to caucus events and politicians throughout the years, and assisted with elections in Corning for many years. She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning for over sixty years, a member of the Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary, Ourcq Post 117.
Genevieve is survived by her son Kyle (wife Nancy) of Gowrie, Iowa; grandchildren: Caroline McCard of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Andrew (wife Megan) of Golden Valley, Minnesota; great - grandchildren: Dominic A. McCard and Reed A. McCard of Golden Valley, Minnesota; a sister- in- law, Mildred Potts of Sterling, Illinois; brothers- in- law: Dr. Ray McCard (wife Roslyn) and Wallace Seay (wife Emilyn); many nieces and nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband Fred; her parents; a brother, Leo Potts; brothers- in- law Homer S. McCard and Bennard McCard; sisters-in-law Mary Will McCard and Dorothy McCard.
