Geraldine Jenn Emerson

Geraldine Jenn Emerson, daughter of Bard Weaver and Margaret Irene (Madole) Goodale, was born on June 9, 1921 in Diagonal, Iowa. Geraldine entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 11, 2013 at the Corning Nursing Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa at the age of ninety-two years, three months and two days.
Geraldine attended Diagonal High School and graduated with the Class of 1939.
On November 21, 1941, Geraldine was united in marriage to Jacob Ross “Hap” Emerson and two children were born to bless this union: Jerry and Garry Emerson.
Geraldine worked for the Lauvstad Drug Store for a few years prior to her twenty year employment at Turners Department Store where she was a clerk in the Dry Goods Department. Geraldine retired from Turners in 1984. Later, Geraldine worked part time at Ken’s Drive-In. She also volunteered for the ISU Extension office where she contributed to the “Time Out” newsletter.
Geraldine was a long-time member of Business and Professional Women and was named “Woman of the Year” in 1980. Geraldine was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Corning.
Left to cherish Geraldine’s memory are her sons: Jerry Emerson and his special friend, Diana Miller of West Des Moines, Iowa and Garry (Haruedee) Emerson of Aurora, Colorado; five grandchildren: Elizabeth Emerson, Evelyn (Rob) Morgan, Alex (Maggie) Emerson, David Emerson, Michael Emerson; three great-grandchildren: Myla, Syvannah and Alona Emerson; former daughter in-law, Amphora Emerson of Omaha, Nebraska; good friends: Dick and Debbie Blazek of Corning, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hap Emerson on January 9, 2002; two brothers: George and Charles Goodale; three sisters: Violet Nevill, Vera Morey, Margaret LePera and an infant granddaughter.
