Harold E. Roberts

Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salem Lutheran Church and/or Greater Regional Hospice.
Harold Eugene Roberts was born to Rose Emma (Davis) and Glenn Wood Roberts on June 12, 1922, at Creston, Iowa. Harold entered eternal rest on August 20, 2006, at his home in Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty-four years, two months, and ten days.
Harold lived most of his life in Creston. He graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1941. Harold served in the United States Navy during World War II from October, 1942, until March, 1946.
On October 21, 1948, Harold married Florence “Flossie” Christina Nelson at the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston.
Harold began working for the Creston News Advertiser as a paper carrier, then as a janitor. Following his return from the military, he returned to the Creston News Advertiser as a pressman. Later, he was promoted to a mechanical supervisor. In January, 1974, he was appointed the Editor/Publisher until his retirement in July, 1984.
Harold was proud to have served as chairman from 1957-1958 of the committee that organized little league baseball in the community. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church where he served on a number of committees and on the board. He served as president for one year of the Mid-America Mechanical Conference; president of the United Fund; and president of the Creston Chamber of Commerce in 1978. Harold served as board member of the Iowa Daily Press and was recipient of the Distinguished Award from IDPA. He also served as board member of the Greater Community Hospital; Rotary Club; and was active in the Christmas Basket Club. Harold was invited to the White House by Presidents Ford, Carter, and Reagan. He was the author of two books: “When A Penny Was Important” and “Round The Community”.
Left to mourn Harolds passing are his wife, Flossie, Creston; Daughter: Rev. Kathy (Stuart) Fullarton, Chetek, WI; Son: Allan (Jean) Roberts, Brooklyn, NY; Son: David Roberts, Glendale, AZ; Six Grandchildren; Three Great-Grandchildren. Brothers: Edwin (Delores) Roberts, Creston; Bob (Sue) Roberts, Afton; Sisters: Joanne (Dale) Lake, Orient, IA; Marlene Claypool, Tucson, AZ; step-sisters: Trudy (Bill) Claypool, Cedar Rapids, IA; Ardith (Howard) Wilkey, Boise, ID; Vinita Justus, Susanville, CA; step-brother: Ronnie (Nancy) Jarman, Springville, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents; and Brothers-in-law: Lester Claypool and Jess Justus.
