Harriet Spring

March 21, 1926 — September 17, 1947

Harriet Ann Spring, the daughter of Prentis Lawrence and Eunice Aneita (Preston) Lawrence, was born in Forsyth, Montana on March 21, 1926. Harriet entered eternal rest on March 30, 2008 at her home in Corning, Iowa at the age of 82 years and 9 days.
Harriet attended Corning schools, working all through high school babysitting and performing housework. As the Lawrence family of ten children grew, Harriet being the older sister, was looked at as more of a mother figure, as their mother passed away when the children were young.
She married Paul Clifford Spring on September 17, 1947. In 1954, Paul and Harriet built their home in Corning where they raised four sons: Donald, Doug, Eric and Randy.
As a young wife and mother, Harriet soon developed a passion for numerous hobbies including leather and copper tooling, arts and crafts, card clubs, bowling and cooking. Over the years she made to order a number of leather items such as purses, wallets and bowling bags. She expressed her creativity at making copper lamps, plant containers and a variety of other arts and crafts projects. She belonged to a local card club and later enjoyed pitch games at Congregate Meals in Corning, where she would spend many afternoons. For many years, she also was on several bowling leagues. Harriet was a fantastic cook and she always shared meals at every opportunity with her family and friends.
In addition to raising a family, Harriet worked at the NFO for 13 years and was employed by the Adams County Treasurers office for 17 years as an Auto Deputy.
When Paul and Harriet retired, they enjoyed long car rides on country roads, dancing, entertaining and visiting with family and friends. Every Sunday the couple would make their way to Clearfield to eat the brunch buffet offered at the small town cafe.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Corning and the Womens Auxiliary Club for over 60 years. Harriet cherished her children and grandchildren. Left to honor Harriets memory are her sons: Donald (wife Sandi) Chute, St. John, Indiana; Doug Chute, Avondale, Arizona; Eric (wife Deb) Spring, Eagan, Minnesota; Randy (wife Linda) Spring, Apple Valley, Minnesota; brothers: Robert G. (wife Carol) Lawrence, Steilacoom, Washington; Dale V. (wife Eva) Lawrence, Puyallup, Washington; Stanley H. (wife Jean) Lawrence, Stanwood, Iowa; sisters: Lucille (husband Stanley) Core, Corning, Iowa; Janet Boyce, Lebanon, Oregon; Mary Lawrence Jones, Stanberry, Missouri; grandchildren: Dawn Chute, San Francisco, California; Robin Dawson, San Ramon, California; Jeremy Spring, Farmington, Minnesota; Stephanie Spring and Rebecca Spring, both from Eagan, Minnesota; Kevin Spring, Greg Spring and Brian Spring all from Apple Valley, Minnesota; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul in 2002, brothers: Dean and Phillip; sister: Betty Jean; and brothers-in-law: Colin Boyce and Ron Jones. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
