Helen Britten

Helen Merle Britten, the daughter of Melvin Homer and Lucy Elfeda (Jones) Huffman, was born on January 23, 1920, near Nevinville, in Adams County, Iowa. Helen entered eternal rest on December 18, 2007, at Winterset Care Center North, Winterset, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven years, ten months, and twenty-five days.
Helen graduated from Nevinville High School with the Class of 1938. On July 2, 1938, she married Charles Martin Britten at Grant City, Missouri. Two children were born to bless this union.
Helen lived in the Nevinville area for many years. They moved to a farm in Adams County in 1946 until moving to Creston in 1998. Helen was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends. She kept busy with ceramics having made ceramic decorations for all of her family. Helen also made quilts for all of her grandchildren.
Helen was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church; the Happy Hour Card Club; Lakeshore Country Club in Afton, and the XYZ Club. Helen bowled on several bowling leagues while she was able.
Left to cherish Helens memory are her children: Paul Britten, Creston and Adella (husband Donnie) Pool, Creston; Five Grandchildren: Michelle Smith; Troy Britten; Shelley Carter; Kelly Pool; Becky Pool; Eight Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Vivian Schwab, Creston; Sister-in-Law: Shirlene Huffman, Oklahoma City, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Helen in death were her parents; husband, Charles in 2004; Brothers: Richard and Tom Huffman, and an Infant Brother James at birth; Sisters: Martha Smetak; Mary Everling; Carrie Fleming; Elva Smith, and Bernice Kerrigan.
