Hollis W. Naven, 86, Corning, Iowa, died Monday afternoon, October 19, 2009 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa, following a period of declining health.
Hollis Walter Naven was born March 3, 1923 on the family farm South of Brooks, Iowa, to Clarence Allen and Freda Mildred (Walter) Naven. He loved the land that he worked and farmed all of his life. Hollis took pride in his livestock and he also loved his flowers and gardening, spending much time in his yard. He was an avid reader and a very learned man who could enjoy talking about past and current events. On June 1, 1944, Hollis was united in marriage to Edith Fine at McPherson, Kansas. The couple resided near Guss, Bedford and Lenox and moved back to the family farm where they have resided for the past 32 years.
Family was an important part of Hollis life. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Edith; a sister, Mildred (Mrs. Howard) VanPelt, Scottsdale, Arizona; brother, Norman (Linnea) Naven, Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law: Mrs. Elsie Rose Burton, Clarinda, Mrs. Lucille Stanley, DeWitt, Iowa, and Mrs. Hope (Bill) Pratt, New Market, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Allen (Linda) Fishell, Monte (Brenda) Fishell, Aaron (Jessica) Fishell, James (Donelle) Naven, Sheila (Jeff) Lang, Jerry (Paula) Naven, Patricia (Douglas) Schultz, Gordon (Marty) Pratt, Jo (Lou) Blackney, Billie Joyce (Karl) Hodge; great-nieces and nephews: Alana, Courtney, Taylor, Tyne, Ashley, Brandi, Jeremy, Cory, Justin, Tyler, Ryan, Sarah, Diane, Austin, Aaron, Andrea, Joey, Amy and Bill.
Preceding Hollis in death were his brothers-in-law: Paul Fishell, Richard Burton and George Stanley; a nephew, Eric Fishell.
