Jackson Jack Cothron

Jackson “Jack” Cothron, 88, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 6, 2015. Services will be held in Clarksville, Tennessee on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Cumberland Furnace, TN. McReynolds-Nave Larson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements, www.navefuneralhomes.com.

Jackson “Jack” Cothron was born December 29, 1926, in Dry Branch, Macon County, Tennessee, the son of Lucy Wilson and Martha (Manson) Cothron.
Jackson left high school in Tennessee to join the United States Air Force during WWII. He was stationed in Goose Bay, Canada and Greenland. Jack also served in the United States Navy as a Sea Bee during the Koren War. Jack went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Austin Peay University.
On June 3, 1955, Jack was united in marriage to Catherine Louise Buckner in Cumberland Furnace, TN. Three children were born to bless this union. Jack began farming with his father in Tennessee; the farming operation included row crop, tobacco and livestock. Jack also taught High School Science, sold Life Insurance and was a Meat Inspector. The family moved to Lancaster, MO in 1971 where Jack raised cows and started a hen laying house with 50,000 hens. In 1993, Jack and Louise moved to Ringgold County, near Kellerton, Iowa, and raised Short Horn cattle. Jack and Louise moved to Afton in 2010 and retired from farming. In retirement, Jack had a massive vegetable garden and shared the produce with everyone. As a hobby, Jack continued his interest in Bee Keeping and also planted hundreds of apples trees in Afton. Jack always had an interest in everything historic. This past summer, he enjoyed many “adventures” with friends touring the local museums and historic points of interest in the area.
Jackson and Louise were members of the United Methodist Church in Afton.
Left to cherish Jack’s memory are his daughters: Jane Cothron and partner, Laura Mayer, Newport, OR; Judy Funk, Coatsville, MO; Anna Cothron and husband, Keith Norman, Rosholt, WI: four grandchildren: Katrina (Brandon) Kaestner, Kirksville, MO; Casey Funk, Coatsville, MO; August Norman and Vivian Norman both of Rosholt, WI: two great-grandchildren: Jayde and Holli Kaestner: three brothers: Noble Cothron, Lafayette, TN; Kenneth (Betty) Cothron, Plano, TX and Max (Karin) Cothron, Walworth, WI; sister-in-law: Nancy Poole, Adams, TN: Brother-in-law: Joe (Chris) Buckner, Rockton, IL. Jackson is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Preceding Jack in death was his wife Louise and his sisters: Dorothy Sampson and Clara Jones.
