Jim Hamilton, 78, of Creston died, Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M., Monday, March 18 at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Pastor Paul Vandevender will officiate. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Creston with Military Honors by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797. Open Visitation will be from 1:00 – 8:00 P. M. Sunday. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name. James Stephen Hamilton, the son of Leon Ray and Anna Elvira (Bjork) Hamilton, was born on April 13, 1934, in Bedford, Iowa. Jim graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1952. On April 19, 1956, Jim married Rosalie Mary Nevill in Clearfield, Iowa. Jim served in the United States Army from April, 1956 until March, 1958. Following his discharge, Jim reunited with his wife who was living in Creston.
Jim lived in Creston most of his adult life. He was a proud Southsider for over 50 years. Jim worked various jobs and for various factories. He also worked as a carpenter building houses and remodeling homes; worked for the Lumber Division of the Farmers Coop for several years; and helped in the construction of Southwestern Community College. He was employed by S.W.C.C. in various capacities. Jim worked for Van Mark for many years and retired from there at age 62. Jim loved to mow lawns and following his retirement, he started Jim’s Lawn Care.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory is his wife of 56 years, Rosalie Hamilton, Creston; his daughters: Lori (John) Hays and Christi (Dr. Richard) Byerly, both of Creston; his son, Steve (Candy) Hamilton, Creston; Six grandchildren: Miranda Hays, Samantha (Brandon) Whitfield; Jason and Josh Merboth; Dustin (Amanda) Hamilton; and Kassie Hamilton; One great-granddaughter, Alissa Hays; his former son-in-law, Rupert Stanley, Price, Utah; and his brother, Ed (Delonna) Hamilton, Creston. He is also survived by step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents; his daughter, Joni Stanley; and two sisters: Loretta Edwards and Betty Bradley.
