James Jim Klingensmith

James “Jim” Klingensmith, 88, of Creston died Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Mercy Hospice Home, Johnston, Iowa. Memorial Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 29 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Father Ken Halbur, Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Creston. There will be no public viewing. Rosary will be said at 10:00 A.M., Saturday morning at the church. Family will greet friends at the church Saturday morning following the Rosary. James Nicholas Klingensmith, the son of Clarence LaVerne and Rose Theresa (Walsh) Klingensmith, was born on July 10, 1924 near Nevinville in Union County, Iowa. Jim entered eternal rest on September 23 2012, at Mercy Hospice House, Johnston, Iowa at the age of eighty-eight years, two months, and thirteen days.
Jim lived in the Creston area his whole life. He graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1942. On May 7, 1949, Jim married Twylla Marie Waters at Immaculate Conception Church in Creston. This marriage was blessed with four daughters. Jim loved and devoted his life to farming. He farmed and raised livestock northwest of Creston in Union County, retiring at age seventy-two.
Jim was a life-long member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a former member of the Creston Elks Lodge.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his daughters: Rose (Joe) Wesch, Rio Medina, Texas; Patricia (Mark) Berns, Abilene, Kansas; Mary Jo Key, Ankeny, Iowa; and Renee (Steve) Minard, Carlisle, Iowa; Nine grandchildren: Joe Wesch; Tanis Carpenter; Brent Berns; Brandi McGivney; Derek Berns; Ryan Key; Brianne Peppers, Shelby Freeman and Chad Minard; Eleven great-grandchildren; his sister: Mary (Rudy) Ehm, Creston; his sister-in-law: Shirley Klingensmith, Creston; his dear friend: Marian Amdor, Massena; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents; his wife, Twylla in 1996; his two brothers: Harry and Bill Klingensmith; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Joe and Bobbi Waters; and his sister-in-law: Marie Klingensmith.
