James P. Buzz Roberts

March 5, 1933 — September 24, 2014

James Pete Roberts, the only son of James Isaac and Luella (Bloom) Roberts, was born March 5, 1933 in Prescott Township, Adams County, Iowa. James passed away at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the age of 81 years, six months and 19 days.
James attended the Hazel Dell Country School in Douglas Township thru the 7th grade. When the school closed, James transferred to Corning and graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school, “Buzz” farmed until he entered the US Army on February 2, 1953 during the Korean Conflict. James served as a High Speed Radio and Teletype Operator at USAEUR Headquarters in Germany and was Honorably Discharged at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on January 25, 1955.
Returning home, Buzz farmed briefly and then entered the University of Omaha where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Engineering. He then went to work in the Quality Control Department at Vickers, a manufacturer of hydraulics equipment, as a Time-Study and Work Standards Engineer. While in Omaha, Buzz met Charlotte Walvoord and they were married in her home town of Waterloo, Nebraska on July 29, 1967. Two children were born to bless this union: Cindy and James. James and Charlotte returned to Adams County, Iowa in 1967 because James missed the freedom of the outdoors. James has been engaged in farming ever since.
James was a supporter of the Strand Lutheran Church. He enjoyed listening to Country Music and was an avid outdoorsman, where he loved to hunt and fish.
Preceding James in death were his parents; his daughter, Cindy Roberts; his only sister, Adeline Elder; and his brother-in-law, Edwin Elder.
Left to mourn James’ passing is his loving wife, Charlotte of Corning; his son, James Roberts of Corning; a nephew, James Jones (and significant other, Stephanie Childs) of Corning; and a brother-in-law, Don (Carolyn) Walvoord of Waterloo, Nebraska.
