Jeanne Hayes Hair Shires was born on January 6, 1924 to Paul and Vera Driftmeier Hayes in Clarinda, Iowa. She passed away at her home in Prescott on June 6, 2008 at the age of 84.
Jeanne graduated from Prescott High School in 1941. On May 11, 1946 she married Robert D. (Bunny) Hair in Troy, Kansas. He passed away on January 16, 1978. Two children were born to bless this union, a son Paul David who died in infancy, and a daughter, Madelyn.
Jeanne worked as a teller for the 1st National Bank of Prescott for 28 years. She was a member and president of the Prescott American Legion Auxillary and also served as the Adams County Auxillary president. She was secretary of the Prescott School Board and the first secretary-treasurer of the Prescott Community Club. She taught Sunday school at Prescott Christian Church where she was a member. Jeanne liked to keep busy and loved to watch the Atlanta Braves baseball games. She liked to china-paint, read, knit, sew quilts, and solve crossword puzzles. Her family was important to her and she loved to be with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On April 2, 1983, she married Donald E. Shires in Reno, Nevada. He passed away on May 3, 2008.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Madelyn (husband Dean) Williams, Prescott; sister Marjorie Wood, Villisca; sister-in-law Marilyn Hair, DeWitt; grandchildren Dina Hoff and fiance Jeff Mitchell, Candace (Rich) Stuhr, Shane (Jennifer) Williams; great-grandchildren Jake and Kelsey Hoff, Ty, Devin, McKenna, Dillin and Dawsin Stuhr, and Shelby Roberts-Williams;
many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is survived by step-children Bob, Myron, and Tank Shires and their families, and many other relatives and friends.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Vera Hayes; husband, Robert (Bunny) Hair; husband, Donald E. Shires; infant son, Paul Hair; sisters: Bernice Campbell and Janice Smart, brothers-in-law: Ronald Campbell, Bob Smart, Francis Wood and Cecil Hair; nephew, Bobby Dunn Jr.
