Jeri Mccullough

June 26, 1964 — April 10, 2022

Jeri was born on June 26, 1964 to Donald L. and JoAnn (Petry) McCullough in Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1982. She worked for four years as the desk receptionist at the YWCA in Lincoln. Her longest job was working as a word processor for HWS Consulting Group, who dealt with civil engineering issues. She also worked for a short time as a charity clerk for the Better Business Bureau. Jeri would become interested in criminal justice and pursue a degree at Hamilton College in Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated in May 2007 with her Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice.
She was an avid NASCAR fan and very rarely missed watching a race on tv. She also loved watching the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears play during football season. Her favorite college football team was Notre Dame, or as she put it, any team that was playing against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She had an affinity for cats and even had a Persian mix named Pepper for a short time. She collected teddy bears and had a unique collection of China dish sets. She enjoyed watching the action-packed shows of NCIS, Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods. You could always catch her with a Mt. Dew which it was joked that her blood got replaced with the pop because she drank so much of it.
Jeri met Brad Slick and they became really good friends and even roommates for a time. Jeri would ultimately end up being a live-in nanny to Brad and Rebecca’s daughter, Lexi until they moved to South Dakota. Jeri would periodically visit the Slick family and helped to take care of their son, Mason as well. She became fondly known as “Aunt Jeri” and loved to spoil the kids. After Brad’s death in 2014, the family stayed in regular contact with Jeri. Rebecca and the kids moved to Creston, Iowa in 2015 with good friends Christy and Clint Williams to help co-parent the children. In 2019, they all helped her move from Falls City, NE to Creston, IA to help her with medical issues. Jeri was a valued member of our immediate family and was at most holiday and family events.
In the last few years she had developed some serious health issues. She was diagnosed with cancer in early 2021, had surgery and underwent chemo and radiation and was considered cancer free by September 2021. Recently she had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and was having some fluid retention in which she was starting the process of figuring out when she passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 10th. The doctors ruled that cause of death was due to her heart.
Jeri was preceded in death by her father, Donald L. McCullough (1993), mother JoAnn (Petry) McCullough (2002), sister Mary Marie Everett (2009), Patricia J. Adrian (2014), and best friend Bradley F. Slick (2014).
She is survived by her very close family friends of Rebecca, Alexandra, & Mason Slick and Clint and Christy Williams of Creston, Iowa; Kelsey Slick of Lincoln, Nebraska and Melanie (Slick) Felix of Fort Collins, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother Donald McCullough, sister Toni Howard and niece, Cynthia Howard all of Lincoln, Nebraska; uncle and aunt, Jim & Linda McCullough and numerous cousins. Jeri's close, family friends are in charge of arrangements.
