Jerry Dean Kirkpatrick

October 7, 1939 — December 1, 2018

Jerry Dean Kirkpatrick, the son of Dwight L. and Anna Irene (Peairs) Kirkpatrick, was born at the home of his parents in Ringgold County, Iowa on October 7, 1939. The family moved to Creston when Jerry was 5 years old and he attended Creston Public Schools. As a Junior in High School, Jerry enlisted in the US Navy as part of the ROTC Program. In May, 1958, Jerry graduated from Creston High School and immediately began his 2 year commitment in the Navy serving on the USS Midway. Jerry received his Honorable Discharge from the Navy and immediately enlisted in the US Army. On February 8, 1974, Jerry was united in marriage to Sue-Fei Huang in Taipei, Taiwan. A son, Dwight, was born to this union and was welcomed into the family by his step-sister, Den-ny Following 4 tours of Duty in Vietnam and 22 years serving his country, Jerry retired. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army on March 31, 1979 and returned to civilian life in Creston. He began a 20 year career as the Custodian for the Creston Middle School.
Jerry was a family man and was very fond of his 2 lap dogs. He also enjoyed spending time with his coffee-club buddies at Hy-Vee. He was a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and took extreme pride in serving his country during the Vietnam War. Jerry looked forward to attending concerts and other events with his niece, Lynne.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Sue-Fei Kirkpatrick of Creston; his son, Dwight Kirkpatrick of Madrid, IA and his step-daughter, Den-ny Hwang and husband, Rick Housler, of Washington, DC; a brother, Edward (Barbara) Kirkpatrick of Newport News, VA; three sisters: Colleen Brotherton, Lois (Bill) Jay and Diana Loomis, all of Creston; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Boyd Kirkpatrick; his sister, Carol Wynn; 2 brothers-in-law, Jack Wynn and Richard Brotherton; and sister-in-law, Doris Kirkpatrick.
