Jess Ronald Gourd

Jess Ronald “Red” Gourd, the son of Emily Matilda (Parrott) and Jess Ralph Gourd was born June 3, 1920 at Bedford, Iowa. Ronald entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at Corning Nursing and Rehab Center, at the age of eighty-five years, four months and twenty-two days.
“Red” farmed in Lincoln Township in Adams County Iowa until he entered the Army, serving during World War II. After the service he worked at Eveready Battery Plant in Red Oak, Iowa before moving to Kansas and California. While in California he worked on a cattle ranch and then worked at CTS Electronics at Paso Robles, California, retiring in 1990.
In August of 1951, at Creston, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Lois Evelyn Winwright. To this union 2 children were born, Mary and Jess.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathryn Dixon and Annis Hayes; brother, Russell (Bill) Gourd; brother-in-law, Ralph Hayes; sister-in-law, Bernidine Gourd, and 3 infant brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of Corning, Iowa; daughter, Mary Leal, Corning, Iowa; son, Jess Gourd, Corning, Iowa; sister, Neva (Norman) Nelsen, Corning, Iowa; brothers, Jack (Bess) Gourd, Corning, Iowa and Robert (Leona) Gourd, Corning, Iowa, 8 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
