Joan E. Rains

Joan Ellen Rains, the daughter of William Lowell and Marilyn Joyce (Hight) Steele, was born on April 23, 1955, in Corning, Iowa. Joan entered eternal rest on April 19, 2013, at Greater Regional Hospice Home, Creston, Iowa at the age of fifty-seven years, eleven months and twenty-seven days.
Joan has lived in Massena the last sixteen years. She also lived in Creston and Bakersfield, California a short time. She attended school in Bakersfield, California. On January 7, 1972 Joan married Steve Rains in Bakersfield. They later divorced.
Joan worked for several different factories during her life. When the family moved back to Iowa, she worked for a sewing factory in Bedford. Joan also worked for Papetti’s in Lenox; Gummy Bear in Creston; and Heat Tech in Afton.
Left to cherish Joan’s memory are her son: Larry Rains, Creston; her daughters: Carrie (Curtis) Downey, Creston; and Carla Britton, Grimes, IA; Ten Grandchildren: Michael Phelps, Tyler Downey, Nathan Rains, Nolan Rains, Dylan Downey, Danna Rains, Kimmy Britton, Aly Downey, Keyawna Conley, and Natalee Millslagle; her brother: Steve Steele, Massena, IA; her sisters: Joyce (Milton) Lawry, Osceola, IA; Jill Moralez, Corning, IA; Jean (Greg) Passley, Cassville, MO: and Jennifer (Brian) Krauth, Corning, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Joan in death were her parents; her grandparents; and her son, Jeremy Wayne Rains.
