John H. Johnson

January 18, 1923 — June 6, 2021

Lenox, IA – On Sunday, June 6, 2021, John Harm Johnson, loving husband and father of three daughters graduated to glory and is now walking the streets of gold in his heavenly home. He and his wife Lorine, who passed away in January, are holding hands again.
John was born on January 18, 1923 in Brookings, SD to Wilbur and Hulda (Egger) Johnson. John was the third of six children. John fell in love and married Lorine Elizabeth Woodward of Wisconsin Rapids, WI on December 29, 1951.
John and Lorine lived briefly in Brookings, SD where their first daughter Echo was born. They then moved to Wells, MN where their second daughter Judy was born. Finally, they moved to Wisconsin Rapids, WI where their third daughter Barbara was born. They stayed in Wisconsin Rapids for many years and raised their family there. They were founding members of Faith Baptist Church in that city, and John served as a deacon for many years.
John was a Veteran and served in World War II from November 29, 1948 to December 1949. He was then recalled during the Korean War (serving in Europe) from September 1950 to December 1951. John loved carpentry from furniture and cabinetmaking to constructing complete buildings. His beautiful handiwork will be cherished even though he is no longer with us. He also worked hard on the horse farm owned by him and Lorine. John worked at Port Edwards paper mill for over 30 years in Quality Control.
John was a faithful Christian serving the Lord in his church whether by designing a pulpit, leading a building project, or helping with AWANAs. He read the Bible many times and could quote details from the Old or New Testament. In the mid 90’s, John and Lorine moved down to Lenox, IA where they lived for many years close to their daughter and son-in-law, Echo and Alan Pierce. They continued to serve the Lord at the Area Bible Fellowship church in Clearfield, IA.
John and Lorine enjoyed raising horses with their daughters and eventually running a boarding stable after they “retired”. They had many “horse” friends that they have kept in contact with to this day. They spent many hours remodeling their various houses over morning coffee before doing the actual work themselves. After various winter trips to Arizona, they had planned to move permanently to Apache Junction. John returned to Lenox this summer to sell their home when his health failed.
Besides his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Lorine, and all of his brothers and sisters, Julia (August), Rena, Wilma, Ruby (Everett) and Daniel (Helen). John is survived by his children Echo Pierce (Alan) of Apache Junction, AZ, Judy Gould (Jerry) of Las Cruces, NM and Barbara Rossi (David) of Chassell, MI. John is also survived by his two grandchildren Jon Meadows (currently in China) and Lorine Gould (Las Cruces, NM).
A joint memorial service for John and Lorine will be held June 12th at 1:00 CST at Area Bible Fellowship Church, Clearfield, IA.
