John L. Hechmer

Interment will be at Canal Fulton Union Cemetery in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of John L. Hechmer.
John L. Hechmer passed away, December 10, 2007 in Elk Horn, IA at the Salem Lutheran Nursing Home. Born in Queens, New York, September 18, 1934, to Arthur Benedict and Helen Hechmer.
John graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1957 with a Bachelors of Engineering Degree. John worked for McDermott International in Barberton, OH as a Mechanical Engineer from 1957-1997.
John served in the United States Army from 1957-1959.
John married Marlene Orwick on September 3, 1960, who preceded him in death in 2000. John married Mary Lou Cooley of Iowa on November 10, 2002.
Preceded in death also by his parents; a daughter, Teresa; a sister, Carmen and stepson, Marty Cooley. John is survived by brothers: Ben and Michael; a sister, Clare; sons: Michael, Thomas (wife Marilyn), Lawrence, Paul (wife Tess), and David (wife Katie); daughters: Catherine, Carol and Rita; stepsons: Michael (wife Dawn) Cooley of Orient and Paul (wife Rhonda) Cooley of Massena; stepdaughters: Mary Jo (husband Jeff Hidecker) of Michigan, Beth (husband Dan Waddle) and Jane Mack, both of Corning. Four grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild.
John was an accomplished photographer and avid lover of walking in the woods. John was a dedicated sponsor for several children through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.
