John Mclandsborough

John McLandsborough was born to Judith Marie (Davis) and John Francis McLandsborough on October 4, 1923, in Rose Hill, Iowa, near Oskaloosa. John entered eternal rest on May 17, 2006, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of eighty-two years, seven months, and thirteen days.
John graduated from Oskaloosa High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1941 until 1945 during World War II and also 1 1/2 years during the Korean Conflict. He was a survivor of the U.S.S. Vincennes and received several medals including the purple heart. In 1944, he married Billie Love; in 1980 he married LaDonna Schuler.
John lived in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa prior to moving to Creston thirty-four years ago. John worked for CB Q Railroad and Burlington Northern Railroad as a conductor. He was a conductor for Amtrak for ten years. He worked on the railroad for thirty-five years until his retirement in 1986.
John was a member of the American Legion Post #0070 in Creston and a life-time member of the VFW Post #775 in Ottumwa.
Preceding John in death were his parents, his first wife; his son: Rickie Lee; and his sister: Maybelle Reid.
Left to mourn Johns passing are his wife: LaDonna McLandsborough, Creston; his sons: John E. (wife Sheryl) McLandsborough, Aurora, CO; Donald McLandsborough, Hollywood, FL; Steve (Alicia) McLandsborough, Creston; Daughter: June McKain (husband Licinio), Long Island, NY; Stepdaughter: Carrie (husband Terry) Wetzsteon, Scottsdale, AZ; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother: Ed (wife Anne) McLandsborough, Oskaloosa, IA; Brother-in-law: Don Reid, Ottumwa; his sister: Mary (husband Ray) Gross, North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
