August 17, 1956 — January 8, 2014

Jon Early, 57, of Creston died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Unity Point Health, Rock Island, Illinois after a long illness. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Rev. Daniel Moore, Cromwell Congregational Church, will officiate. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, Cromwell. Open Visitation will be from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 15. Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Jon’s name to be determined. Jon Frank Early, the son of William Forrest and Elma Maysal (Hartsook) Early, was born on August 17, 1956 in Creston, Iowa. Jon lived his entire life in Union County, Iowa. Jon attended school in Cromwell from Kindergarten – 5th Grade; then attended Creston Public School. Jon graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1974. He attended Southwestern Community College and graduated in 1977 with an Associate Degree.
Jon loved all aspects of farming; raised angus cattle; row crop; and raised chickens for several years. Jon helped his parents when they were elderly and made it possible for them to stay on the farm.
Jon was a member of the Cromwell Congregational Church. He loved to bowl and participated in 4-H as a younger man. Jon showed cattle every year until age 18 and earned several 4-H championship ribbons. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. Jon enjoyed watching old Westerns on television, and especially loved Bonanza and John Wayne movies.
Left to cherish Jon’s memory is his twin sister, Janis Holsman, Ames; his aunts and uncles: Phyllis and Max Parrott, Omaha, NE; Wayne and Joan Hartsook, Creston; and Harriett Hartsook, Des Moines, IA; and numerous cousins and friends.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents; Elma in 2001 and Bill in 2007; his grandparents: Ralph and Elsie Hartsook; Bessie and Frank Early; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
