Laverne Rose Nelson

April 22, 1916 — October 6, 2011

LaVerne Rose Nelson, daughter of William and Rose (Brockman) Wortman, was born on April 22, 1916 in Silver City, Iowa. LaVerne entered eternal rest on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of ninety-five years.
LaVerne was united in marriage to Virgil Ernie Nelson on December 14, 1937 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa and two children were born to bless this union: Robert and Berniece.
After the couple married, they started their life on a farm south of Carbon where LaVerne was a farm-wife and homemaker with numerous responsibilities and she always made sure that taking care of her family was her priority. She helped on the farm by gathering eggs, milking cows and tending to the large garden. LaVerne was also responsible for the apple orchard and took great pride in canning apples and making apple juice and applesauce for her family.
Left to cherish LaVernes memory is her son, Robert (wife Jolene) Nelson of Corning, Iowa; daughter, Berniece Lostroh of rural Glenwood, Iowa; four grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Wortman of Washington and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil in 2002; son-in-law, Bill Lostroh; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; three brothers and three sisters.
