Ladean G. Hermansen

September 10, 1920 — November 23, 2008

Burial will be at the Carl Cemetery in rural Adams County. Memorial contributions may be directed to Corning Nursing Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa.
LaDean Gertrude (Shinkle) Hermansen was born on September 10th, 1920. She was the last of eight children to Luther Franklin and Laura Jane (Fickel) Shinkle. She was born at home, south of Carl, Iowa. LaDean entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the Corning Nursing Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight years, two months and fifteen days.
LaDean attended country school at Carl, 1st grade through 8th. LaDean worked in Omaha, Cheyenne and Hawaii, as a waitress and during the war, at a factory. She married Oral Nelson Case on April 29th, 1944 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They had no children, but Oral had one son, Ronald. Oral died in Longmont, Colorado on February 26th, 1962, and is buried in Longmont as a Veteran of WWII.
LaDean married George Hermansen on December 17th, 1966 at Carl United Methodist Church. George died on December 17th, 1987.
LaDean lived in seven different states, seventeen years in Colorado and seventy years mostly in Iowa, but also lived in Missouri, Hawaii, California, Nebraska and Wyoming. She moved to Corning in October of 1990, after she and George had lived near Carl and south of Corning for 21 years.
LaDean loved to cook and grow flowers. She also enjoyed genealogy and kept track of family at all times, she let us know about reunions, births and deaths, who was sick and who was divorced. She also enjoyed bird watching immensely. She belonged to bird watching clubs in many states. She was a faithful Christian, attending and supporting her churches and womens groups at Carl United Methodist Church and Fairview Church. Aunt LaDean loved to have company and was a wonderful hostess. She dearly loved her brothers and sisters and their families, her step-son, his wife, their family and helped them whenever she could. She loved to play ten point pitch and Texas dominos and played many games with her sisters, nieces, nephews and good friend Doug Leonard.
LaDean is survived by her stepson, Ronald (wife Jean) Case of Sarasota, Florida; five step grandchildren: David, Douglas, Kevin, Ronda and Renee; eight step great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; nephews: Jim Maloney, John, Floyd, Don and Steve Shinkle; nieces: Carol Layton, Marilynn Sapp, Donna (Jim) Phillips, Shirley Jackson and Laurel (Steve) Conley; dear friends: Harold and Lillian Leonard and Doug and Michelle Leonard of Corning; cousin, Claudine Wilson of St. Joseph, Missouri. As she had no children of her own, all of these people were her close family, especially since all of her brothers and sisters have gone before her.
Preceding LaDean in death were her parents; husbands: Oral and George; several aunts and uncles; her brothers and their wives: Earl (wife Ruth), Kenneth (wife Grace), Edward (wife Edna) Shinkle; sisters and their husbands: Audrey (husband Ray) McGrath, Lois (husband Charles) Maloney, Alice (husbands Claude Harvin and Francis Murphy) and Leah (husband Eugene) Ogden; four nephews: Wayne and Tom Shinkle, Lawrence Jackson and Junior McGrath.
