Lanny Benoit

September 24, 1940 — November 8, 2021

On November 8, 2021 Lanny Paul Benoit passed away at his home in Creston, Iowa. Lanny was born on September 24, 1940, in Harlan, Iowa. His parents were Harold and Alice (Kinsey) Benoit. Lanny grew up in Harlan. After graduation, Lanny enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in San Diego, CA. January 10, 1958 Lanny was honorably discharged. After his discharge, Lanny re-established back to Harlan, Iowa where he had various jobs. One of his long time jobs was in Harlan at Western Iowa Packing plant where he was a superintendent. In the fall of 1961, Thanksgiving weekend, Lanny and Lois began dating. They were united in marriage July 7, 1962. The wedding was in Wilson, KS. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

After they were united in marriage they recited in Harlan, Iowa. Lanny continued working at the packing plant. In 1968 Lanny and Lois relocated to Creston, Iowa where Lanny worked for Southwest Distributing and Kerr Cockran Chevrolet selling cars. In 1972, Lanny and his family moved to Afton, Iowa where he managed Lakeshore Golf and Country club. In 1977, Lanny started delivering fuel for Farm Service. Lanny went through three mergers where he retired after 30 plus years of service. At that time he was with Agriland, F.S. out of Winterset, Iowa. Since then he has been enjoying retirement.

Lanny was a family man. He loved spending time with his beautiful wife and two daughters, Shawn and Tracy. Lanny raised these girls to be strong, light hearted, and hardworking. Lanny was very proud of his girls and most of all so very proud of his 7 grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Zach, Kinsey, Kassey, Alec, and Dylan. You could not have a conversation with Lanny without him mentioning at least one of them. To Lanny, his family was his life. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Rest easy Daddy.

Lanny was survived by his wife Lois, Daughter Shawn Smith (Brian), Daughter Tracy Ostendorf (Scot), 7 grandkids, Brother Jamie Benoit (Margie), Sister Judy Knudson, Sister in laws Mary Ann Kasper, Barbara Harper (Chuck), Pat Hepner, and Brother-in-laws John Pfeiffer (Chrissy), Jerry Pfeiffer (Janet), many Nieces and Nephews, and many friends from all over. Lanny is preceded in death by his son Chad Michael, Parents Harold and Alice Benoit, Mother and Father-in-law John and Mary Pfeifer, Brother-in-Laws William Keith Kasper and Larry Knudson, and Nephew Keith Randal Kasper.
