Laurena Dunn

December 18, 1919 — March 19, 2015

Laurena Dunn, 95 of Nodaway, Iowa passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at CHI Health-Mercy Hospital in Corning. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Nodaway United Methodist Church in Nodaway. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Nodaway United Methodist Church. Laurena May (Focht) Dunn, the daughter of Maurice Cleveland and Grace Pearl (Hull) Focht was born December 18, 1919 in Pilot Grove Township in Montgomery County. She graduated from Villisca High School with the class of 1937. On September 20, 1940 she married Robert Arthur Dunn I in Carroll Iowa. Four children Carolyn, Robert II, Kent, and Stanley blessed this union. Laurena and Robert spent the first four years of their lives together living in Peoria Illinois before moving to a farm southwest of Villisca. The family then moved to a farm south of Nodaway for a few years and has been residing in the Nodaway area ever since.
Laurena was employed by the Union Carbide Battery Company in Red Oak while Robert was in the service before working as a cook at the Villisca School until 1980. She was active in the Nodaway United Methodist Church, Ladies Legion Auxillary Joseph Thomas Post #646 and the United Methodist Women’s Group. She enjoyed sewing, spending time in her flower garden and tending to her plants. She loved cooking her specialties chicken and potato salad and baking.
Left to cherish Laurena’s memory Daughter: Carolyn Sanburn of Lenox, IA; Daughter-in-law Christine Dunn of Nodaway; Sons: Kent Dunn of El Dorado, CA and Stanley (Brenda) of Nodaway, IA; Brother: Homer Focht of Red Oak, IA; 9 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Laurena is preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1984; son Robert Dunn II in 2004; infant sister Grace; brothers: Aaron and Charles Focht; sister Florence Willis; Brother-in-law Jack Willis; and Sister-in-law Geraldine Focht.
