Mae Sheets, 85, of Clearfield, formerly of Creston, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Clearview Nursing Home, in Clearfield, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 3, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Mary O’Riley will officiate. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church. On-line condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.
Leora Mae Sheets was born to Gladys (Metters) and Timothy Bailey on May 25, 1927, in Clearfield, Iowa. She graduated from Clearfield High School and was a member of the girls’ basketball team. Mae was united in marriage to Merle Guy Sheets on August 27, 1946, in Troy, Kansas. To this union one son was born, Timothy Sheets.
Mae was a life-long resident of Creston, Iowa, but had entered the nursing home in March of 2010 due to declining health. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Mae enjoyed gardening and was involved in the construction business, “Sheets Bros Construction”, which her husband Merle “Skeeter” and brother-in-law Robert owned. She worked for many years at the Windrow Restaurant and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Mae is survived by her son, Tim (and daughter-in-law Connie) Sheets, Las Vegas, NV; her granddaughter, Tracey Schafer, Norwalk, IA; her grandson, Darrin (and his wife Kim) Sheets, Las Vegas, NV; her great-grandson, Drew Schafer, Norwalk, IA; her sister-in-law, Helen Sheets, Creston, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Tim Bailey; her husband, Merle “Skeeter”; her brothers, Richard and Bill Bailey; her sister, Vernell Posten; and her brother-in-law, Robert Sheets.
