Lillian Irene Pettit, the daughter of James Albert and Viola Rebecca (Clement) Harrison, was born on January 11, 1916 in Madison County, near Macksburg, Iowa. Lillian entered eternal rest on April 19, 2008 at her home in Creston, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two years, three months, and nine days.
Lillian married Lonnie Leonard Pettit on November 14, 1934 at Winterset, Iowa, and five children were born to bless this union. Lonnie and Lillian were foster parents for several children for more than ten years. They moved to Union County in 1946. Lillian worked as a Nurse Aide for many years and began work at the Creston Hospital on July 29, 1957. After the new hospital was built, Greater Community Hospital, she admitted the very first patient. Lillian also helped transfer the patients from the old hospital to the new hospital. Lillian retired on December 2, 1984. Lillian was also a farm wife and homemaker.
Lillian enjoyed meeting with the other retired hospital employees each month.
Left to cherish Lillians memory are her children: Lois (husband Fritz) Weis, Afton, IA; Leonard (wife Regina) Pettit, Afton, IA; Lowell (wife C. Janet) Pettit, Creston, IA; Linda (husband Jack) Hanrahan, Prole, IA; and LaDonna (husband Mike) Short, Creston, IA; Twenty-two grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Lillian in death were her parents; husband, Lonnie, in 1994; grandson: Steven Pettit; grandson-in-law: Bruce Weaver; one brother: Henry Harrison; and five sisters: Tuttise Hulbert, Isadora Mabbit, Mattie Binns, Daisey Mapes, and Rosey Davis.
