Lorane Leonard

August 2, 1930 — February 13, 2014

Edith Lorane (Lynam) Leonard, daughter of Ralph and Edith Lynam, was born on August 2, 1930 in Corning, Iowa. Lorane entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Clearview Homes in Clearfield, Iowa at the age of eighty-three years, six months and eleven days.
Lorane attended school in Adams County and graduated from Corning High School with a Normal Training Certificate with the Class of 1948.
On December 26, 1949 Lorane married her high school sweetheart, Arnold Leonard, and to this union two sons were born: Rick and Kirk. After the couple was married, they moved to the Leonard Homestead in 1949. Lorane taught country school for the first three years of their marriage. In 1952, after Rick was born, Lorane retired from teaching and became a homemaker and farmwife. This was a job she took immense pride in, raising her family and helping Arnold on their Century Farm for over fifty-seven years.
Lorane was a member of the Eastern Star and the Rose Ann Auxiliary. Her hobbies included bridge clubs, bowling, golf and traveling. Lorane loved traveling and had gone on several trips. Lorane and Arnold traveled to Europe in 1999.
Left to cherish Lorane’s memory is her husband of 64 years, Arnold Leonard of Corning, IA; son, Kirk (wife Karen) Leonard of St. Louis, MO; daughter-in-law, Julie Leonard of Kenmore, WA; three grandchildren: Chris Leonard of Kenmore, WA; Brant Leonard of West Des Moines, IA; and Brynn Phillips of Knoxville, IA; three step-grandchildren: Jennifer Karsten of Ankeny, IA and Ryan and Josh O’Roake of Newton, IA; sister-in-law, Phyllis Buck of Johnston, IA; brother-in-law, Cliff Bradley of Corning, IA and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Lorane was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Lee Bradley, sister-in-law, Arlene Powell; brother-in-law, Dan Leonard, Jr. and son, Rick Leonard.
