Louie L. Huss

Louie Lela (Miller) Huss, the daughter of Frank Elias and Gertrude Rose (Larkin) Miller, was born March 4, 1913, on a farm three and one-half miles east of Creston, Iowa. Louie entered eternal rest October 29, 2006, at the Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three years, seven months, and twenty-seven days.
Louie attended rural school at Lincoln Township No. 8. Upon her eighth grade graduation, she ranked second in the county for grades. She was a winning speller at county spelling contests. Louie took music lessons from Rose Burdette, Chas. Hayden, Mrs. E.L. Carroll, Evelyn Hiessel and last with Pauline Hulbert. She was active in 4H Club, Lincoln Beautifiers. After graduating from Creston High School in 1930, she drove a horse and buggy around the surrounding area and taught piano to several students.
On September 2, 1934 she married Billy H. Huss of Afton at Jerusalem Church. They lived in Afton for six years and moved to a farm in Lincoln Twp. east of Creston in 1940.
Louie was a farm wife and homemaker. She also did poll interviews for several companies such as the Des Moines Register, Iowa State College and doing interviews at Greenfield during the filming of the movie “Cold Turkey”. Louie and Billy sold their farm and retired to Creston in 1974.
Over the years, Louie enjoyed playing cards with neighbors, flower gardening, reading, sewing and quilting which she learned from her grandmother. Weddings were of special interest to her as she catered many weddings, making cakes, mints, food preparation and floral arrangements.
Louie was a member of the Afton Presbyterian Church, the Jerusalem Church, and later the Presbyterian Church in Creston. She was a long time member of the Creston Federated Womens Garden Club, Greater Community Hospital Auxiliary, and county vice chairman for the Creston Republican Party under the leadership of Clark Bailey, Dennis Bailey and Arnold Kenyon. Louie was the 4th district President of the Republican Women in Iowa where she served three (two year) terms. While working with the Republican party, Louie received commendation for services for her outstanding ability and service to her community and state.
Left to mourn Louies passing is a sister-in-law: Ellen Huss, Des Moines; her nieces and nephews: Dixie Templeton, Omaha, NE; John Miller, Cromwell, IA; Paula Stoner, San Antonio, TX; Russell Parsons, Salt Lake City, UT; Niquita Stout, Waukee, IA; Noel Huss, Des Moines, IA; and Marilyn Huss, Des Moines; and many friends.
Preceding Louie in death were her parents; her husband Billy on August 16, 2001; and her brother Paul W. Miller.
