Mabel Pine

Mabel Clare Pine, the daughter of Delbert Dudley Gripp and Grace Etta (Shaw) Gripp, was born June 11, 1907, near Thayer, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at the age of ninety-nine years, six months, and ten days in Creston, Iowa.
Mabel grew up in the Union County area. She graduated from Thayer High School in 1924 and then attended two years of teacher education classes at Drake University in Des Moines. She taught in country schools and then in Murray, Diagonal and Lenox, Iowa.
On December 25, 1931, she married Alan L. “Plug” Pine of Diagonal in Galesburg, Illinois. They farmed for many years west of Kent. She lived on the farm until 2001 and took great pride in it.
Mabel was a devoted member of the Stringtown Community Church and a long time organist there. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and other organizations.
Mabels passions included her family and friends, farming, buying and selling antiques and gardening.
She is survived by her nephew: William Grady Maharry of Lenox, Iowa; nephew: Fred Maharry (wife Robin) of Alta, Iowa, and niece: Sandra Harris of Creston, Iowa. Also surviving is a nephew: Robert Walker and his family of Brush, Colorado. She is remembered fondly by three grandnieces, five grandnephews, other relatives and numerous friends.
Preceding Mabel in death were her parents; her husband; her brother William Gripp; her sister-in-law Helen; her sister Lucille Maharry; her nephew, Dr. Dan Harris; and her niece Mary Walker.
Memorials will go to the Stringtown Community Church, the Pleasant Valley Church near Thayer, the Lenox Community Schools and the Lenox Public Library.
