Marcella Howe

December 4, 1926 — June 19, 2010

Marcella Mae Stanley Howe, 83, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2010, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home, in Creston, Iowa.
She was born in Madison County, Iowa, on December 4, 1926. Marcella was the third daughter of Clifford Stanley and Leatha (Keesey) Stanley. She grew up on farms in Dallas County, attended country schools in the Dexter and Redfield areas, and graduated from Redfield High School in 1944. Later, she attended Creston Junior College and graduated from Drake University in 1964.
Marcella married Robert Emmett Howe on July 16, 1949 in Creston. They made their home in Creston where Marcella lived for 61 years. Two daughters were born to their marriage. Bob died in 1962 of cancer.
Marcella taught in Madison County country schools for 5 years, at Lincoln No. 5 country school in Union County for 13 years, and in the Creston Community School District for 32 years. She so enjoyed meeting and conversing with former students.
She volunteered for over 40 years at the Union County Historical Society, spurned by the moving of Lincoln #5 country schoolhouse to McKinley Park Historical Complex. She was a member of Union County Genealogy Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, CARSPA, and Bancroft. She enjoyed volunteering in the Creston Schools by Helping students with history projects, by mentoring students, or by helping with special projects. Gardening was her favorite hobby. She had a green thumb and was proud to share many garden products and flower starts with friends and neighbors.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Snodgrass of Creston and Robyn Howe of Madison, Alabama; two grandsons, Adam Snodgrass (wife Amy) of Creston, and Jonathan Howe of Madison, Alabama; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Aiden Snodgrass of Creston. She is also survived by one sister, Lila Love of Dexter, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and former students.
She was prceded in death by her beloved husband of only thirteen years, Robert Emmett Howe, her parents; and three sisters: Charlene Link; Jean Crase, and Evelyn Williams.
