Marcia will be cremated following the visitation and inurnment will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Corning, Iowa at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Opera House Restoration Foundation and/or the Corning Public Library and/or the Icarian Foundation.
Marcia (Bliss) Gauthier, daughter of George Raymond and Carrie (Sperling) Bliss was born on Wednesday, May 11, 1921 in Mount Carroll, Illinois. Marcia entered eternal rest on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of eighty-eight years, nine months and twenty-five days.
Marcia attended Corning High School and graduated with the Class of 1938. On August 28, 1941, Marcia was united in marriage to Paul S. Gauthier at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning, Iowa and five children were born to bless this union: Nan Catherine, Anthony Paul, Joseph Albert, Margaret Joann and Christopher Alan.
Paul edited and published the Adams County Free Press for 33 years following the death of his father. In 1983 the couple sold the newspaper. Throughout her entire adult life Marcia relished her place in the center of family and community activities. The couple resided in Corning their entire lives.
Marcia was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church and the Alter Society. Marcia loved to play bridge which included about 15 members of the Bridge Club.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Nan Catherine (Jim) McCreary of Houston, TX, Anthony Paul (Joelle) Gauthier of Grand Rapids, MI, Joe Gauthier of Des Moines, IA and Peggy Gauthier of Portland, OR; six grandchildren: Lynne and Laura McCreary of Los Angeles, CA, Nicholas Gauthier of Kalamazoo, MI, Alexander Gauthier of East Lansing, MI, Trevor and Brendan Gauthier of Saratoga Springs, NY; one great-granddaughter, Madeleine Gauthier of Kalamazoo, MI; sister, Laura Bliss of Lynchburg, VA and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 2003; son, Chris Gauthier; daughters-in-law: Beverly Horton of Des Moines, IA and Dawn Gauthier of Saratoga Springs, NY and sister, Florence Hilborn.
