Marilyn Joyce Steele was born near Mt. Etna, Iowa on Sunday, January 5, 1936 to parents Charles Elmer and Gladys Viola (Bilderback) Hight. Marilyn entered eternal rest on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of seventy-three years and twenty-six days.
Marilyn attended Corning Schools and graduated with the class of 1953. On June 21, 1953 Marilyn was united in marriage to William Lowell Steele. The next few years were spent farming, trucking and having children. The couple lived in various states over the years including their ten years in California. In 1983 the couple moved back to Corning.
Marilyn considered herself to be a “Domestic Engineer” - raising six kids. She was an activist in the Republican Party, the trucking industry and the community. Marilyn was also a state delegate to the Republican Convention in Houston, Texas. Marilyn was active with the Adams County Genealogical Society and she was a passionate fan of baseball. Her family was very important to her and her house was always open to her family and her friends.
Left to cherish Marilyns memory is her husband, William Lowell Steele of Corning, Iowa; children: Joyce Elaine (Milton) Lawry of Osceola, Iowa, Joan Ellen Rains of Massena, Iowa, Steven Frank Steele of Massena, Iowa, Jill Ann Steele of Rapid City, South Dakota, Jean Marie (Greg Passley) ODougherty of Corning, Iowa and Jennifer Lynn (Brian) Krauth of Corning, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Edward (Kathy) Hight of Farmington, Missouri; sister-in-law, Harlana Hight of California and an abundance of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents; grandson, Jeremy Wayne Rains; brother, Douglas Eugene Hight; sister, Radine (nee-Ludwig) Lawrence; mother and father-in-law: Sadie and Frank Steele.
