Martha Franklin

January 15, 1909 — September 13, 2011

Martha Ann Franklin, the daughter of Lewis Weldon and Clara Maude (Hopkins) Clark, was born on January 15, 1909, in Leon, Iowa. Martha entered eternal rest on September 13, 2011, at Afton Care Center, Afton, Iowa, at the age of one hundred two years, seven months, and twenty-nine days.
Martha lived most of her life in Creston. She has also lived in Burlington, Iowa and St. Joseph, Missouri. Martha graduated from Creston High School in 1929 and was the last living member of her class. She also attended Business College for two years.
On November 15, 1930, Martha married D. Harold Franklin. Martha worked as a sales representative for Blue Cross, Blue Shield and she also sold Luzier personalized cosmetics.
Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church and made flower arrangements for the front of the church for many years. Martha loved to volunteer and was a member of the Greater Community Hospital Auxiliary. Martha was devoted to her mother; and loved her dog, a toy spitz. Martha liked to hunt, fish, and travel and took an annual fishing trip to Canada.
Left to cherish Marthas memory are her sister-in-law, Marion Franklin, Beaverton, OR; her nieces and nephews: Jane (Frank) Jandrey, Creston; Paul (Jackie) Clark, Iowa Falls, IA; Sherry Johnson, Corning; Jack Franklin, Beaverton, OR; and June Bond, Bend, OR; her great-nieces: Rhonda (Mike) Almquist, Essex, IA; Pam (Archie) McCord, Grant City, MO; and Tilena Meek, Mount Ayr; her great-nephew: Randy Pottorff, Des Moines, and several other great nieces and nephews and friends.
Preceding Martha in death were her parents; her husband; her brother, Fay Clark; and her nephew, Fay W. “Butch” Clark.
