Mary Cosaert

Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Mary Catherine Cosaert, passed away Friday, September 7th, 2012, at the age of eighty-eight years and three days, at Lakeside Meadows in Osage Beach, Missouri where she had resided since January, 2010.
Mary was born September 4, 1924, on her sister, Ednas 18th birthday, in Corning. IA, to John L. Mahr Mable Cochrane Mahr. Mary was proud that she was raised and lived where the Rosary Hospital now stands. Mary lived in Adams County for 84 years, until May, 2008, when she moved to Crest Ridge Estates Independent Living in Creston, IA to be close to the kidney dialysis center there.
She grew up attending the Methodist Church. Mary was active in 4-H Quincy Lassies and served 1 year as President of the Adams County 4H Club. She graduated from Corning High School in 1942 and married John Phillip Cosaert, February 23, 1943. They had five children. They raised registered Black Angus cattle and farmed near Mt Etna, IA and later bought a farm west of Corning. John preceded Mary in death, August 26, 2003. After raising her family, Mary went back to work. Eight years at the Rosary Hospital as a receptionist, where she received the honor of Employee of the Year, and subsequently went to work for Dr. Nolan, Dr. Ott and Dr. George for another fifteen years before retiring in 1989.
Mary treasured her family and friends and enjoyed membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, HOA Club, NFU Club and Windyville Neighbors Club. She blessed many by sharing her beautifully crocheted doilies and afghans, that kept her busy in her retirement.
A very proud mother, Mary would smile and call her children the “Cosaert Five”. Mary is survived by her children: Linda (Leonard) OHair of Roach, MO, Richard (Vickie) Cosaert, Logan, IA; John (Barbara) Cosaert, Iowa City, IA; Jeanine (Randy) Luther, Keller, TX; and Elaine (Tom) Monforton, Spokane, WA. Mary also leaves 11 Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John, and parents; her sisters Edna Cameron and Vada Frederick and their husbands Everett Haviland Hugh Cameron and Vane Frederick.
