Mary Devore

Verda Mary DeVore, daughter of Charles and Dosha Brink Drake was born in Adams County on June 23, 1921. Mary entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 86 years,
Mary grew up in Adams County and attending high school in Corning, graduating with the class of 1939. On November 10, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Robert DeVore. To this union two children were born, Rex and Diane.
Mary was a devoted mother and homemaker; she worked for the Corning Creamery prior to her marriage. She drove a school bus, substituting for her husband, Robert; she served as an election poll worker for many elections in the county. Mary also enjoyed gardening and fishing when time permitted, and was an excellent pie baker, furnishing many pies for church and community activities. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corning until it closed, and then joined the United Methodist Church in Carl.
Mary is survived by her husband, Robert of 61 years, daughter Dianne (husband Dale) Lind of Atlantic. Grandchildren: Holly (Jason) Wailes and Bradley (Lindsey) DeVore, all of Atlantic. Adam Lind of Omaha, NE and Amber Lind of Fort Dodge, IA; a great grandson, Joaquin Wailes. Daughter-in-law, Jeannine DeVore Harris; sister Kathyrn Wilson of Auburn, CA, brother Bob (Doris) Drake of Creston and Sister-in-law Elvera Drake of Carl along with many other nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Rex DeVore, brother Fredrick Drake, grandson Noah Lind, and niece Gayle Drake.
