Mary E. Loudon

October 31, 1925 — July 26, 2013

Mary Enid Loudon, the daughter of Lawrence Phillip and Bernice Velda (Brandon) Weckman, was born on October 31, 1925 in Corning, Iowa. Mary entered eternal rest on July 26, 2013 at the Winterset Care Center North, Winterset, Iowa at the age of eighty-seven years, eight months and twenty-six days.
Mary was raised by her grandparents, Roy and Mary Agnes Brandon, due to her mother passing away when Mary was five years old. Mary graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1944. On June 1, 1946, she married Paul Robert Loudon in Creston, Iowa.
Mary worked as a cook at St. Malachy School for seven years. She later worked for Seckington Hardware in Creston for about five years. Mary worked as a hostess at the Knotty Pine Steakhouse. She was also a homemaker and gardened and canned a lot of the vegetables she raised. Mary enjoyed camping (mostly at Green Valley); playing cards; playing solitaire; and was an avid reader. Mary lived in Creston most of her adult life. She lived at Creston Nursing and Rehab for one year and has lived in Winterset since 2009.
Mary was a former member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and was active in the St. Malachy P. T. A. She managed the Sale Barn and the Eagles Lodge with Paul. Mary was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Creston. In addition, she belonged to several neighborhood card clubs.
Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her sons: Dennis (Judi) Loudon, Creston; and Vernon Loudon, Creston; her daughter-in-law, Susan Loudon, Creston; Nine Grandchildren: Traci, Alexa, Amanda, Brook, Angela, Clint, Andrew, Trevor, and Abigail; Sixteen Great-Grandchildren; her special friend, Don Smith, Creston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; her husband in 1993; her son, James Loudon on February 16, 2009; her brothers: Ivan Weckman (during WWII on D-Day) and Harold Weckman; and her sisters: Kitty DeFabio and Norma Wickwire.
