Mary Agnes (Cain) Starry was born June 22, 1921 to Joseph and Rose Katherine (Krohmer) Cain, Jr. near Lenox, Iowa in Adams County. Mary entered eternal rest on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Creston Nursing Rehab in Creston, Iowa at the age of eighty-seven years, three month and twenty-six days.
Mary attended Sunnyhill country school in Adams County and continued her education by taking bookkeeping classes at Creston Junior College.
Mary married Ralph LaVerne Starry on her birthday, June 22, 1940 in Winterset, Iowa, they later divorced. Five children were born to this union: LaVerne, Dale, Nancy, Kathleen and Karen
Her home and children were her first priority. She loved baking, gardening and sewing for her children. Mary was a hard working farm wife. As a young woman, Mary enjoyed quilting and embroidering. Marys grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great pride and joy for her.
Mary farmed in rural Adams County until 1960, then moved to Creston and worked at the Greater Community Hospital until retiring in 1982.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joseph Cain; her grandson, Kevin Williams and one sister, who died in infancy.
Mary is survived by her sons: LaVerne (wife Maxine) Starry, Enterprise, Alabama and Dale Starry, LaVista, Nebraska; her daughters: Nancy (husband Bill) Williams, Omaha, Nebraska, Kathleen Curtis, Beatrice, Nebraska and Karen (husband Wayne) Pottinger, Creston, Iowa; Nine Grandchildren; Eight Great-Grandchildren; two brothers: Paul Cain, Lenox, Iowa and Raymond (wife Thelma) Cain, Creston, Iowa; cousin, Ann (husband Dale) Cooper, Bedford, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, other cousins, other relatives and friends.
