Maxine (Carr) Mercer

December 30, 1926 — June 6, 2011

Maxine Mae Mercer, daughter of H. Franklin and Velda (Simpson) Carr, was born on December 30, 1926 near Carl, Iowa. Maxine entered eternal rest on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of eighty-four years.
Maxine attended rural schools and graduated from Corning High School in 1946. Maxine was united in marriage to Carroll Mercer on March 4, 1946 in Leavenworth, Kansas and four children were born to bless this union.
Maxine was a natural care-giver, she worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide for Colonial Manor in Corning when it opened in 1965 and continued to work there for 35 years. She was a dedicated employee and was always willing to fill-in for fellow workers who needed time off. She was baptized in the Methodist Church at Carl and was a long-time member of the Carl and Mt. Etna United Methodist Church’s.
Maxine enjoyed embroidering and has given away many of the items she’s made over the years as gifts. She loved baking waffle cookies, making homemade caramels and preserving jams and jellies. Maxine was always experimenting with new recipes with her family and friends as taste testers. She never missed a birthday, holiday or anniversary – always recognizing special events with cards, letters and gifts.
Maxine lived her entire life in Adams County: Carl, Mt. Etna and Corning. Maxine was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish Maxine’s memory is her husband, Carroll Mercer of Corning, Iowa; son, Denny (Deborah) Mercer of Waukee, Iowa; son, Doug (Janet) Mercer of Corning, Iowa; daughter, Janice Mercer Leonard (Kevin) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; four grandchildren: Christine, Stacey, Cody and Clayton Mercer; two great-grandchildren: Cicily and Gannon Hook; cousins, nephews, other relatives and friends; two life-long friends: Betty Reichardt and Norma Jean Goldsmith.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Richard Harry Mercer; sister, Ruth Woosley; all aunts and uncles.
