Michael Laverne “Shakey” Higgins, the son of Duane Higgins and Fern (Rhode) Bougher, was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on June 7, 1953 and passed away comfortably at his home August 3, 2007 at the age of fifty-four years, one month and twenty-six days.
Mike attended school in several different schools. On June 26, 1971 he was united in marriage to Edwina Leichliter. To this union one son, Michael, Jr., and three daughters, Angie, Tracy and April were born.
Mike worked as a mechanic, was a truck driver for ERCI, and worked construction for a number of years. He has made Corning, Iowa his home for the past seventeen years.
Mike is survived by his father, Duane Higgins (wife Kathy) of Des Moines; his mother, Fern Bougher of Altoona; his wife, Edwina of Corning; son: Michael Higgins, Jr. of Des Moines; daughters: Angie (John) Nicholson of Nodaway; Tracy Higgins (fiance Joe Smith) of Stanton; April (Ryan) Peterman of Greenfield; sisters: Marlene (Jim) Edwards, Karen Higgins, Melody (Gary) Christenson, all of Des Moines and Jeri Higgins of Kansas City, MO; brothers: Ed (Kim) Higgins of Corning and Robert (Trisha) Higgins of Des Moines; grandchildren: Dalton Nicholson, Dallas Nicholson, Michael Smith and Rayanne Peterman, and many more family members and dear friends.
