Mike Mulford

Mike Mulford, 66, of Delano, Minnesota, formerly of Creston died Friday, January 4, 2013 at his home in Delano, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 12, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Pastor Dan Moore will officiate. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery, Creston. There will be open visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M., Saturday morning at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning one hour prior to the service. Due to logistics, the family encourages memorials and should be directed to the family in Mike’s name. Michael Eugene Mulford was born August 20, 1946, in Creston, Iowa to John Francis Mulford and Marguerite Edyth (Slater) Mulford, who were both life-long residents of Creston.
On November 10, 1968, Mike married Janet Louise Cook Sipe, a young divorced mother with a three year old son (also named Mike). They met soon after Mike was offered a job as a security guard at Woodward State Hospital in Woodward, Iowa. Janet worked as a nurse at the same hospital. Over the next ten years, they lived and worked in several different states and cities. They enjoyed meeting new people and discovered how different a 100 mile move could make. Mike and Janet added three more children to their family in the next four years.
Mike and Janet both enjoyed traveling across the United States in their motorhome. Mike was fanatical about all the projects he envisioned, and his upbeat personality convinced other people that they wanted to do it too. He was just as fanatical about injustices that happen to minorities, children and vulnerable seniors. Without a doubt his love of animals was where his heart was.
Left to cherish Mike’s memory is his wife of forty-four years, Janet Mulford, Delano, MN; his children: Mike (Sandy) Mulford, Jr., Northfield, MN; Kris (Kyle) Marcus, Delano, MN; John Slater (and long term partner, Joan E. Kealy), Somerset, WI; and Joe (Julie) Mulford, Mora, MN; his grandchildren: Zachary, Jacob, and Joseph Mulford; Maggie Marie and Jessica Louise Marcus; and Thomas and Benjamin Mulford; his niece, Gina Volpe, Northfield, MN; and his great-nephew, Mark Wyatt, Dayton, Ohio.
Preceding Mike in death were his parents; his half-brother, Ernest Curry and his wife Kitty; three of their children, Nicoletta, Robin and LeRoy; his Uncle Pete and Aunt Hope Slater; his Aunt Carrie and Uncle Joe Mulford; and his great-nephew, Chris Wyatt.
