Milo Clinton Showers, 88, of Creston died Monday, January 2, 2012, at the Crest Haven Care Centre, Creston. Inurnment Committal will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 7 at the Graceland Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at 10:30 A.M., Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Creston. Mary O’Riley will officiate. There will be no public viewing and no visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Appalachia Service Project and/or the Joyful Noise Music Ministry. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Milo Clinton Showers, the son of Arthur and Ruby (Recknor) Showers, was born on December 7, 1923 in West Burlington, Iowa.
Milo attended Afton grade school and graduated from Afton High School. Following graduation, Milo entered the United States Army on June 30, 1944. He served two years as an Army Medic in the South Pacific area and with the occupational forces in Japan. Milo received several medals, including the Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged on May 16, 1949.
On September 17, 1950, he married Betty Lee Double in the Presbyterian Church at Creston. To this union one daughter, Linda Lee was born.
Milo worked for the creamery in Afton for several years. He also worked for Swift and Company of Creston and Muscatine as a buttermaker. In 1960, he started employment with Purolator in Creston, working for them as a supervisor for fifteen years. After that he was self-employed as a painter and paper hanger.
Milo was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and his main interests were his church and especially the Appalachia Service Project. He served as deacon and elder and sang in the church choir. He attended Sunday School and Church regularly and taught the Senior High Class when he was younger. He worked with the Appalachia Service Project in the Appalachia Mountains for ten years.
Left to cherish Milo’s memory are his daughter, Linda Lee Hightshoe, Argyle, Texas; two grandchildren: Catrina (Thomas) Dillenburg-Griffin, Ethel, Texas; and Christopher (Kristi) Hightshoe, Justin, Texas; six great-grandchildren: Lanie and Morgan Griffin, Ethel, Texas; Wiley, Chloe, Lily, and Apryl Hightshoe, Justin, Texas. He is also survived by his companion, Joyce Fah, Harlan; and a half-sister, Joyce Higgins, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
Preceding Milo in death were his parents; his step-father, Carol Collett; and his wife, Betty Lee Showers in 2000.
