Nellie Weisshaar

Nellie Antoinette Weisshaar, the daughter of Joseph and Antanetta (Rekus) Miszgaites, was born June 1, 1922, at East Moline, Illinois. Nellie entered eternal rest on April 22, 2010 at Greater Regional Hospice Home, Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven years, ten months, and twenty-one days.
Nellies parents were immigrants from Lithuania and she was a first generation American. Nellie graduated from high school in Rock Island, Illinois and attended Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. On November 17, 1952, she married Donald Paul Weisshaar at Creston, Iowa.
Nellie was a secretary for Westinghouse Corporation and a military wife before settling in Creston. Nellie worked for Union County and in 1952 she was appointed Union County Recorder. She was a stay-at-home mom for several years, then she returned to work at Union County in the 1970s as Deputy Auditor. Nellie remained in this position until her retirement.
Nellie was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish; the Catholic Daughters of America; and was a regular volunteer at the Rectory Rerun Shop following her retirement.
Left to cherish Nellies memory are her children: Terry (Mary) Weisshaar, West Lafayette, IN; Connie (Tim) Hope, Newberg, OR; Carl (Bette) Weisshaar, Middleton, WI; Ed Weisshaar, Lawrence, KS; Donna (Mike) King, Creston, IA; Nancy (Dale) Amdor, Corning, IA; and Mary (Dean) Metzger, Ames, IA; her fifteen grandchildren: Barrett Weisshaar; Meredith Weisshaar (husband, Peter Hawkes); Christy McCambridge; Debi (Aaron) Wilson; Ryan McCambridge; Adrienne (Matt) Amman; Christine Weisshaar; Jamie (Katherine) King; Carrie (Chris) Leighow; Jenny (Ty) Breese; Adam Amdor; Eric (Lori) Amdor; Brent Amdor; Jeff Metzger; and Amy Metzger; her thirteen great-grandchildren; her brother: Frank E. Mizgaites, Las Vegas, NV, and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Nellie in death were her parents; her stepfather, Alex Melnicke; her husband, Don in 2009; her daughter-in-law, Trish Weisshaar; her brother, Joseph Miszgaites; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Alban Weisshaar.
