Norma Ruth Marxen, the oldest of three children born to Ralph Roscoe and Naomi Ruth (Griffin) Brown, was born on January 24, 1929, near Spaulding in Union County, Iowa. Norma entered eternal rest on March 27, 2014 at the Lenox Care Center, Lenox, Iowa at the age of eighty-five years, two months, and three days.
Norma graduated from Orient High School with the Class of 1947. On October 17, 1948, she married Donald LeRoy Marxen in Creston, Iowa. Four children were born to bless this union. Norma and Don farmed in the Orient, Bridgewater and Creston areas. Norma and Don moved to Creston in 1966. They lived in Creston until 1978, and then moved to Orient until 1998. Norma worked in the Dietary Department at Greater Regional Medical Center for twenty-seven years.
Norma was a member of the Orient United Methodist Church. She loved camping with family and friends. She crocheted, played cards and loved to prepare food. She especially loved to fry chicken and would call dibs on the gizzards!
Left to cherish Norma’s memory are her sons: Stephen (Betty) Marxen, Lenox; Robert (Connie) Marxen, Creston; and Ralph Marxen, Creston; Five grandchildren: Rebecca Smith; Brandy Wagner; Brenda Njus; Dustin Weihs; and Brianne Weihs; Twelve great-grandchildren; her brother, Ed (Bobbie) Brown, Sonora, CA; her sister, Helen (Robert) Shephard, Hemett, CA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998; her daughter, Barbara Jean Johnson in 2006; and her grandson, Clinton Worthy Marxen in 2012.
