Pauline Capsey

April 27, 1918 — January 3, 2014

Pauline Capsey, daughter of Alvin and Louise (Buckridge) Chaney, was born April 27, 1918 on a farm near Skidmore, Missouri. Pauline entered eternal rest on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca, Iowa at the age of ninety-five years.
When Pauline was a teenager, she combined wheat fields with her brother, Edman. Pauline graduated from Burlington Junction High School in 1936. On September 8, 1938, Pauline was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Capsey in Maryville, Missouri, a union that lasted for sixty-five years until Kenneth’s death in 2003. To this union two daughters were born: Connie and Pat.
The couple lived in various places as Kenneth was in the construction industry. The couple lived on a farm near New Market in their early years, later purchasing a farm south of Corning. Pauline enjoyed cooking and prepared many meals for the hired farm hands. She had a large vegetable garden every year, raised chickens and spent many years as a farm wife, helping with all the chores. In 1969, Pauline and Kenneth built a home in Corning and moved into town. Pauline was employed at Turner’s Department Store for twenty years as a Clerk and Ready-To- Wear- Buyer.
Pauline was a member of the United Methodist Church in Corning and the Rose Ann Auxiliary where she volunteered countless hours. Pauline enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Happy Hollow Country Club. Pauline and Kenneth loved to square dance, especially in Gravity. Pauline was an excellent seamstress and made all of her square dance dresses.
Following retirement, Pauline and Kenneth spent fourteen years wintering in Arizona.
Left to cherish Pauline’s memory is her daughter, Connie (husband Connie) Kinman of Clarinda, Iowa; daughter, Pat Spieker of Massena, Iowa; four grandchildren: Kevin (Roselle) Kinman of Corning, Terry (Lisa) Kinman of Clarinda, Chris (Shana) Spieker of Massena, and David (Beth) Spieker of Massena; twelve great-grandchildren; one nephew; one niece and other relatives.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Capsey in 2003; brother, Edman Chaney; and son-in-law, Charles Spieker.
